Puna has a background in the law and Treaty of Waitangi issues. She is the chairperson of Te Reo o Taranaki, a Trust set up to revive the distinct nature of Taranaki reo. She is also a Trustee on the post-settlement governance entity for Taranaki Iwi, Te Kahui o Taranaki and a representative on Parihaka Papa Kainga and Ngati Moeahu hapu. Puna was recently appointed to the Taranaki Biodiversity Trust.
Puna has extensive networks in the Taranaki region and is committed to healthy lifestyles and building positive and vibrant communities.
